Partying and occupation: an occupational analysis of the Bailes da Saudade

Abstract Introduction There are deep relationships between Brega parties and the city of Belém do Pará, Brazil, manifested in everyday practices that influence city’s cultural, performance identity characteristics. These held weekly inform three main actors: partygoers, bregueiros, DJs. Even though they widely validated periphery, face processes social marginalization their practices, with derogatory notions attributed to ways living actions subjects involved this movement. Among parties, study highlights Baile da Saudade, which concentrates on characteristics more linked initial Objective To identify meanings producing/participating Saudade based perspective its actors. Method This qualitative study, was inspired by an ethnographic approach, heard five participants: one DJ, two party planners, bregueiros. The data generated through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, Photovoice. resources were analyzed Thematic Analysis. Results Four thematic units generated: particularities construction as a cultural product, differences consumption Center Periphery city, well stigmas acceptance associated party. Conclusion revealed constraints, tensions, potentials allowed reflection role some occupations from counter-hegemonic perspective.
